Alfa Romeo classic car is ''beautiful and special''
Alfa Romeo's 6C can be placed alongside some of the all-time great classic cars, according to a new review.
Originally
launched as the 1750 in 1929, the car enjoyed huge on-track success in
its debut year, winning Grands Prix in Belgium, Spain, Tunis and Monza,
plus the Mille Miglia, Brooklands Double Twelve and Ulster TT.
With
Alfa Romeo celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Daily Telegraph
columnist Andrew English was given the chance to drive the vehicle at
the famous Italian marque's car museum.
He quickly came to the
conclusion that it can match up to any other famous classic supercar
that springs to mind, such as a Lamborghini Murcielago or a Ferrari 599.
Mr English wrote: "It's not as fast, but just as exclusive and, in its way, more beautiful and special.
"It's
a great deal harder to drive than those other two, but there's a reward
to driving it well and a sense of occasion that simply isn't there in
anything that still smells of plastic and paint rather than hot oil,
old leather and the sweat of a thousand victories."
The Alfa
Romeo 6C was originally launched in 1925, but the more successful and
powerful 1,752cc version hit the roads four years later.
